What is Dynamic Lepus?
Dynamic Lepus is a playful macOS menu-bar companion. A little ASCII bunny drops down from your notch with the local weather, your music, live system stats, and a private on-device AI — day or night.
What do I need to run it?
macOS 26.2 or later. Apple Silicon is recommended and is required for the on-device AI chat. Dynamic Lepus also asks for Location (for local weather) and Automation (the first time it controls your music app) permissions.
How do I open it after downloading?
Grab DynamicLepus.dmg from the latest release and drag Dynamic Lepus into your Applications folder. If you download an unsigned build, macOS Gatekeeper may block it the first time — open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Alternatively, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/DynamicLepus.app in Terminal.
How do I show the panel?
Hover near the notch at the top-center of your screen, or click the 🐇 icon in your menu bar. The panel springs down and tucks away the moment your pointer leaves — it never steals focus from whatever you're doing.
Is the AI private? Does it cost anything?
Yes, it's fully private. "Ask Bunny" runs entirely on your Mac using Apple Intelligence — no network calls, no API keys, and no token costs. It requires an Apple Intelligence–capable Mac with Apple Intelligence enabled in System Settings.
Which music apps does it control?
Apple Music and Spotify out of the box, with album art, a live progress timeline, and play / pause / skip controls. A separate "power" build can control system-wide audio (including browser sources like SoundCloud), but that version is direct-download only and not distributed through the App Store.
Where does the weather come from?
Local conditions come from Open-Meteo — free and no API key required. Dynamic Lepus uses your location for accuracy and falls back gracefully to a default region if you deny location access.
Why does it ask for Location and Automation access?
Location is used only to show your local weather. Automation is requested the first time Dynamic Lepus controls Spotify or Apple Music, so it can send play / pause / skip commands. You can revoke either at any time in System Settings.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit Dynamic Lepus from its menu, then drag DynamicLepus.app from your Applications folder to the Trash. That's it.
