What is Dynamic Lepus?
Dynamic Lepus is a playful macOS menu-bar companion. A little ASCII bunny drops down from your notch with the local weather, your music, and a tray to park files in while you work — day or night.
What do I need to run it?
macOS 26.2 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Dynamic Lepus also asks for Location (for local weather) and Automation (the first time it controls your music app) permissions.
How do I open it after downloading?
After checkout (or from the App Store), open the DMG and drag Dynamic Lepus into Applications. The direct Power build ships as DynamicLepus-Power.dmg. A notarized build should open normally; if Gatekeeper still blocks an older unsigned copy, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/DynamicLepus.app in Terminal.
How do I show the panel?
Hover near the notch at the top-center of your screen, or click the 🐇 icon in your menu bar. The panel springs down and tucks away the moment your pointer leaves — it never steals focus from whatever you're doing.
What is the file tray for?
Drag any file into the notch and it waits there until you need it. It's for the shuffling you do mid-project — pulling an export out of one app and into another — without stacking up Finder windows or dumping everything on your desktop. Drag files back out whenever you're ready.
Which music apps does it control?
Apple Music and Spotify out of the box, with album art, a live progress timeline, and play / pause / skip controls. A separate "power" build can control system-wide audio (including browser sources like SoundCloud), but that version is direct-download only and not distributed through the App Store.
What's the music in the demo?
Thirty-second previews streamed from Apple Music — currently Tycho, Washed Out and Com Truise. Tap the speaker in the corner of the demo screen to mute it, or click the Music icon in the dock to open whatever's playing on Apple Music.
Where does the weather come from?
Local conditions come from Open-Meteo — free and no API key required. Dynamic Lepus uses your location for accuracy and falls back gracefully to a default region if you deny location access.
Why does it ask for Location and Automation access?
Location is used only to show your local weather. Automation is requested the first time Dynamic Lepus controls Spotify or Apple Music, so it can send play / pause / skip commands. You can revoke either at any time in System Settings.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit Dynamic Lepus from its menu, then drag DynamicLepus.app from your Applications folder to the Trash. That's it.
Privacy policy
Dynamic Lepus does not collect accounts, analytics, ads, or crash data. Preferences stay on your Mac. We have no backend, and we do not sell or share your data with ourselves or anyone else.
If you allow Location, it is used only for local weather, at reduced accuracy. That location is sent to Open-Meteo for conditions and to Apple Maps (MapKit) for reverse geocoding a place name. The only other network call is the iTunes Search API, which looks up album art from the artist and title of whatever is already playing. Music control itself is local Automation of Apple Music or Spotify on your Mac.
